Performance by Dalia Chin

Dalia Chin is an active flutist, performer and educator currently living in Chicago. As a performer Dalia is a supporter of new music, often commissioning and premiering works by emerging composers as well as performing works by more established composers of the XX and XXI century.
Recent collaborations have led her to curate and present works in Chicago and other parts of USA such as her project In the same breath for which she was the recipient of the DCASE grant from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. She can be seen performing internationally with the ensemble Fonema Consort for which she is a founding member. She is also member of the Chicago Composers Orchestra, an ensemble dedicated to the performance of living composers. As an educator, Dalia is part of several communities around the city such as Near North Montessori, DePaul Community Division, British School of Music and Chicago Metamorphosis Orchestra, all places with different visions yet all sharing the passion of teaching and sharing the love for art, specifically music. This past year Dalia earned her Suzuki Flute Certification, adding more tools into her teaching career. Her main philosophy is creating a challenging, yet nurtured, healthy, and inspiring environment in which the student is able to develop independence in their own abilities. Dalia holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Costa Rica, Master's degree from Florida State University and a Post-Master Performance Certificate from DePaul University. She has studied under Maria Luisa Meneses, Eva Amsler and Mary Stolper. She has also had masterclasses with Marco Granados, Christopher Krueger, Susan Milan, Robert Dick, Hernan Jara and Alberto Alm |
Dalia Chian: I am happy to be part of Piano Performance Lessons in Chicago teaching flute.
I have been teaching for over 10 years and performing for even longer. I am happy to recruit students through Jesus Garcia's company and start a successful flute studio together. I teach student starting at 5 to 80+ years old.
Among some of my educational experiences in Chicago are my position as a program director of Chicago Methamorphosis Orchestra Project, a non for profit partnering with CSP school Mary Lyon in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. Music Director of the New Horizons Flute ensemble at the DePaul Community Division, Flute instructor at Near North Montessori School and Spanish tutor at Spanish Horizons INC.
I am also flutist and founding member of Fonema Consort, a New music ensemble in Chicago. Flute member of the Chicago Composers Orchestra and flutist for the What is Noise ensemble.
Teaching Philosophy:
I believe each student has tremendous potential. I like to encourage independence in my students. Everybody is different and learn in different ways. I like to meet my students where they are at and go from there making sure they feel confident and motivated. There are great days and some struggle in the learning of an instrument but the student has to know the teacher will be there at all times.
Repertoire:
I teach my students the technique of the instrument through standard methods, personal exercises developed through my experience, scales and music theory.
Standard flute repertoire is included in my teaching, however, I always encourage students to bring their ideas to the lesson if they want to perform other genres.
Please do not hesitate in contacting me as I would love to hear from everybody.
Thank you
